The Acura TL has been redesigned from the ground up for 2009. Deciding to take a bolder approach to the TL’s exterior design, Acura enthusiasts have been divided on whether the new design is revolutionary, or just plain ugly.
Despite the love-it-or-hate-it styling, the 2009 Acura TL is currently the automaker’s best selling model. In May, sales were down compared to last year, but the TL sold a respectable 3,375 units. Overall, Acura’s May sales were down 34 percent compared to 2008.
There are many challenges for automakers these days admits Connecticut Car Loans, and a premium brand like Acura understands this all too well. In a time when Acura is trying to differentiate itself and boost its profile as the ultimate luxury automaker, car buyers are steering clear of premium dealerships as the economy has quelled consumer spending. To make matters worse, competition in the premium segment remains tough, as new offerings from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Lexus are all giving Acura a run for its money.
Second to the TL in sales was the Acura TSX sedan. As Acura’s lower priced sedan, it offers a fair amount of value considered its luxury and efficiency. One Acura dealer that specializes in St Louis auto loans contends that the TL and TSX are modern in styling and provide spirited performance, but reminds buyers that Acura is a Honda-owned brand which means efficiency is never forgotten, even for premium car buyers.
Acura has plenty of work ahead to further build its presence in the shadow of brands such as BMW and Mercedes. That being said, Baltimore Acura says that Acura’s bold designs may pay off by helping the automaker gain more attention and standout in a crowded segment.
